Tess Coady's Snowboarding Journey

Tess Coady grew up in St. Kilda, a suburb of Melbourne. She started snowboarding with her brothers and sisters on weekends and during holidays. Tess began competing in snowboarding events when she was 14 years old.

Early Competitions

In 2017, Tess took part in the World Championships held in Sierra Nevada, Spain. She competed in both the big air and slopestyle events, showing her skills on the snow.

Olympic Dreams and Challenges

Tess represented Australia at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. At just 17 years old, she was the youngest athlete on Australia's Olympic team. She was ready to make her Olympic debut in the slopestyle event. However, during a practice run, she unfortunately tore her ACL, which is a major knee injury. This meant she could not compete. The qualification rounds for the slopestyle event were later cancelled due to very strong winds.

Winning Medals and Achievements

After recovering from her injury, Tess continued to shine in snowboarding.

  • At the 2021 World Championships in Aspen, Colorado, Tess won a bronze medal in the slopestyle competition.
  • On February 6, 2022, she achieved a huge goal by winning the bronze medal in the slopestyle event at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. She finished behind Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and Julia Marino. Tess also qualified for the final in the big air event at the same Olympics, where she placed ninth.
  • During the 2022-2023 competition season, Tess continued her success. She won another bronze medal in the big air event at the 2023 World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia. She also earned a silver medal in the slopestyle event at the 2023 Winter X Games.
