Tezwa River facts for kids
The Tezwa River is a beautiful river found in the Kitimat Ranges, which are part of the large Coast Mountains in British Columbia, Canada. This river is an important part of the Kitlope River system. It flows into the Kitlope River through the top end of Kitlope Lake, helping to feed that larger river.
How the Tezwa River Got Its Name
The name "Tezwa River" was created in 1921 by a government surveyor named Frank Swannell. He suggested this name because it was easier for Europeans to say. The original name, given by a Haisla person he met along the Kitlope River, was Hwuis-u-tezwa. On a map from the same year, Swannell also used the name Hwuis-y-yez-wa River. So, the name we use today is a simpler version of the original Haisla name.
