Thái Bình is a province located on the eastern coast of northern Vietnam. It's part of the Red River Delta region. The name "Thái Bình" means "great peace" in Vietnamese. This province is about 18 kilometers (11 miles) from Nam Định, 70 kilometers (43 miles) from Haiphong, and 110 kilometers (68 miles) from Hanoi.

How Thái Bình is Organized
Thái Bình province is divided into different areas to help manage it. It has eight main parts:
- Seven districts:
- Đông Hưng
- Hưng Hà
- Kiến Xương
- Quỳnh Phụ
- Thái Thụy
- Tiền Hải
- Vũ Thư
- One provincial city:
- Thái Bình (which is the capital city of the province)
These areas are further divided into smaller towns, communes, and wards.
People and Culture of Thái Bình
Even though Thái Bình is in the middle of the Red River Delta, it used to be like an island. It was surrounded by three large rivers. This special location means that the people of Thái Bình have a unique culture.
Thái Bình is famous for being the home of hát chèo opera. This traditional Vietnamese opera style comes from Khuốc village in Đông Hưng District. It's also where water puppetry began, in Nguyên Xá commune, also in Đông Hưng District. People from Thái Bình are known for being practical and clever.
Famous People from Thái Bình
Many important Vietnamese people were born in Thái Bình:
- Lê Quý Đôn was a very smart scholar during the Middle Ages in Vietnam.
- Trần Thủ Độ, who started the Trần dynasty, was born in Hưng Hà District.
- Bùi Viện helped create the city of Haiphong. He was a reformer in the 1800s. He was also the first Vietnamese person known to have visited the United States.
- Phạm Tuân was the first Vietnamese person to travel into outer space. He was a cosmonaut from Thái Bình.
- Two people from Thái Bình helped end two major wars in Vietnam:
- Tạ Quốc Luật captured a French general during the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. This battle ended the First Indochina War.
- Bùi Quang Thận led tanks into the South Vietnamese government headquarters. This led to the end of the Vietnam War.
- The first Chief of General Staff, Hoàng Văn Thái, was also from Thái Bình.
Some people from Thái Bình have become very successful in business. For example, Vũ Quang Hội started the Bitexco group, which owns famous buildings like the Bitexco Financial Tower in Ho Chi Minh City. Vu Van Tien founded Geleximco, a large private company in Hanoi.
A computer science professor named Quách Tuấn Ngọc created the first successful Vietnamese software in the 1980s. It was called BKED and helped process Vietnamese text.

The name of the province, "Thái Bình," comes from old Vietnamese words. It means "great peace."
