Thalanyji facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Thalanyji people are an Aboriginal Australian group from the Pilbara region in Western Australia. They are one of Australia's many First Nations peoples. Their traditional lands are located along the Ashburton River.

Thalanyji Traditional Lands

The Thalanyji people have a deep connection to their traditional lands, which they call "country." According to Norman Tindale, a famous researcher of Aboriginal groups, the Thalanyji's country covered about 11,655 square kilometers (4,500 square miles). This area stretched along the Ashburton River. It went from the coast all the way inland to places like Nanutarra and Boolaloo, and also included the lower part of the Henry River.

Some researchers believe that the Thalanyji people might have moved closer to the Exmouth Gulf area more recently in history.

Thalanyji Language

The Thalanyji people spoke the Thalanyji language. Sadly, this language is now thought to be extinct, meaning there are no longer any speakers of it.
