Thalia is a neighborhood located in the northeastern part of Virginia Beach, a large city in Virginia. It's a place where many families live in the Hampton Roads area.

History of Thalia

Thalia started as a small, independent community within Princess Anne County. A long time ago, a rich Scottish merchant named George F. McIntosh (who lived from 1768 to 1863) had his home, called Summerville Plantation, in this area. His main business was in Norfolk.

During World War II, a special camp for prisoners of war, called Camp Ashby, was located in Thalia.

After the war, many new homes were built in the Thalia area. In 1963, Princess Anne County and the city of Virginia Beach decided to join together. This created one of Virginia's biggest cities, which we now know as Virginia Beach.

Thalia Today

Today, Thalia is a busy community with several important places. It's home to Virginia Beach EMS Station 15, which is a station for emergency medical services. This station is named the "James L. Wood Thalia EMS Station."

You'll also find Thalia Elementary School here, where many local children go to learn. For shopping, there's Loehmann's Plaza.

Just west of Thalia, you can find Princess Anne High School and the Virginia Beach Town Center. These areas are separated from Thalia by a part of Thalia Creek.

Waterways and Neighborhoods

Thalia is surrounded by several waterways, including the Western Branch of the Lynnhaven River, Thurston Branch, and Buchannan Creek.

The Thalia area is made up of several smaller neighborhoods. These include Thalia Acres, Lynn Shores, Thalia Manor, Thalia Village, Thalia Wayside, Thalia Station, and Thalia Shores. The eastern edge of the neighborhood is marked by Caren Drive and Birchwood Gardens. Other well-known streets in the community are Thalia Road, Thalia Drive, Edinburgh Drive, and Lynn Shores Drive.
