Thara Natalie Prashad (born January 16, 1982), known as Thara, is an American R&B singer and model. Her dad is from Guyana, and her mom has Irish and African-American roots. She used to be signed with Desert Storm Records, a music label famous for the rapper Fabolous.

Thara's Early Life

Thara grew up in New Jersey. She started singing when she was 16 years old. She also began modeling to help her get closer to the music world.

She appeared in commercials for big brands like Reebok and Verizon. After the Verizon commercial, she met Jeremy Skaller. He was a new music producer at the time. They became good friends and business partners.

Thara's Music Career

Thara appeared in more music videos and commercials. One of these was Jay Z’s song "Excuse Me Miss" in 2003. She also did a commercial for MTV 2. There, she met La La Vasquez, who was a VJ (video jockey) for the network.

La La introduced Thara to DJ Clue. Thara gave him her demo CD, which showed off her singing. After listening, he asked her to meet his team. Soon after, she signed with his label, Desert Storm Records.

While working on her first album, Thara teamed up with many famous artists. These included Fabolous, John Legend, Kanye West, Rodney Jerkins, and The Neptunes. Jeremy Skaller was the producer for her album.

In 2007, she released her first album, called Thara. It had popular songs like "Jump On," which featured Fatman Scoop. It also included a duet with John Legend called "Maybe," which she helped write.

Touring and Collaborations

After her album came out, Thara traveled to Australia, the UK, and Germany. She became very popular around the world. When she came back to the United States, Jeremy Skaller arranged for her to open a show in Miami. She opened for Jay Sean, a British-Asian R&B/pop singer.

Thara and Jay Sean got along very well. Their strong connection as artists led them to work together on a song called "Murder." They traveled the world performing this song. "Murder" was also on Jay Sean's second album, My Own Way, in 2008.

Thara also appeared in the music video for Jay Sean's song "Stay" from his second album. They worked together again on a song called "Love Goes" in 2010.

Thara also sang with Desert Storm rapper Fabolous on a song called "Ghetto." This song was produced by Scott Storch. "Ghetto" and the album Real Talk became very successful.

Thara's Personal Life

Thara married singer Jay Sean in August 2009. They have two children. Their daughter, Ayva Loveen Kaur Jhooti, was born on December 13, 2013. Their son, Aaryan, was born on August 15, 2018.
