That Which That Orphan Saw (Persian: آنک آن یتیم نظر کرده) is a special novel from Iran. It was written by Mohammad Reza Sarshar. The book tells the life story of Muhammad, who is a very important prophet in Islam.

Mohammad Reza Sarshar wanted to show how amazing and challenging Mohammad's life was. Muslims believe Mohammad was the last prophet. They also see him as a perfect example for people.

This book has won many awards. It has been printed many times in Iran. The author got the idea for the book in 1980. He felt there were no good stories about Mohammad for teenagers. The book was printed for the eighth time in May 2013.

The book was translated into English by James C. Clark. It has also been published in Urdu, Arabic, and Turkish.

The Story of the Book

The first part of That Which That Orphan Saw begins with a dream. Abdul-Muttalib, Mohammad's grandfather, has this dream. In his dream, he is told to dig the Zamzam Well. He finds the right spot near Mecca.

Digging the Zamzam Well

The Quraysh tribe, who lived in Mecca, did not want him to dig the well. They argued with Abdul-Muttalib. Finally, they agreed to ask a wise priest for advice. The priest lived outside Mecca.

Some Quraysh leaders went with Abdul-Muttalib to see the priest. On their way, they got lost. They faced a very difficult situation. Because of this, they finally allowed Abdul-Muttalib to dig the well.

While digging, Abdul-Muttalib found a hidden treasure. The Quraysh tribe thought the treasure belonged to everyone. They wanted to share it equally among themselves.

The Importance of Sons

In those times, having many sons was very important for families. Abdul-Muttalib wished for many sons. He wanted them to protect him from attacks.

After many years, his wish came true. He had many sons. He had made a promise to God. He had promised to sacrifice one of his sons.

By chance, his favorite son, Abdullah, was chosen. When Abdul-Muttalib tried to sacrifice him, others stopped him. They told him to see a priestess. She was a neutral person who could give fair advice.

Abdullah's Fate

The priestess gave them a plan. She said to choose between Abdullah and a certain number of camels. They would do this by chance. If Abdullah was chosen, they would add ten more camels. They would keep doing this until the camels were chosen instead of Abdullah.

Abdul-Muttalib followed her advice. In the end, 300 camels were sacrificed. Abdullah's life was saved.

Abdullah later married a woman. She became pregnant with his son. Abdullah then traveled towards Sham. He became sick near Yathrib. Sadly, he passed away in Yathrib. This meant Mohammad was born without his father.

The book also mentions a promised prophet. This prophet is spoken about in different parts of the story.
