Thaur is a small town, also called a municipality, in the Tyrol region of Austria. It is located about 5 kilometers (3 miles) east of the city of Innsbruck. Thaur is nestled between two other towns, Rum, Austria and Hall in Tirol.
People likely started living in the Thaur area around 1000 BC. The town was first officially mentioned in the year 827. Back then, it was called “Taurane.” This was when the Innichen Abbey bought some land there. Thaur has a long history and is known for being a very religious place, even today.
