The Story of The Black Stallion Returns
Strange things start happening at the farm where Alec Ramsay (Kelly Reno) keeps his incredible horse, The Black. There's even a suspicious fire! One night, The Black is suddenly taken away. A man named Sheik Ishak (Ferdy Mayne) says he took the horse. He claims The Black is actually his horse, named Shetan, and that it was stolen from him. He found out where The Black was after the horse won a big race.
Alec's Desert Adventure
Alec learns that the Sheik is taking The Black back to his home in the Moroccan desert. Determined to get his horse back, Alec secretly sneaks onto a plane headed to Casablanca, Morocco. When he arrives, Alec is found on the plane. He is taken to the American embassy, and the police plan to send him back home.
At the stables, Alec makes some new friends. They help him by disguising him as a local boy from Casablanca. They take him to a man named Kurr (Allen Garfield). Kurr is the leader of a group called the Uruk, and he is also interested in The Black and Sheik Ishak. Kurr lets Alec travel with him and another man. But they leave Alec alone in the desert when their truck breaks down.
New Friends and a Great Race
Another truck driver picks Alec up. On this truck, Alec meets Raj (Vincent Spano). Raj tells Alec that The Black will probably compete in a huge event called "The Great Race." Alec and Raj become friends. They start traveling across the desert on foot with Meslar (Woody Strode), who is Raj's friend and teacher.
Suddenly, the Uruk kidnap Meslar! Raj and Alec must now face the harsh desert on their own. They run out of water and collapse. Luckily, they find a river and recover. Raj's tribe soon discovers them. They welcome Raj home and invite Alec to join their tribe. Raj then takes Alec to the edge of Sheik Ishak's land, where Alec is finally reunited with The Black.
Riding for Victory
While trying to get The Black back, Alec is caught by Ishak's men. He explains his story to Sheik Ishak. The Sheik feels bad for Alec but won't give up The Black. He plans to race the stallion in "The Great Race" with his granddaughter, Tabari (Jodi Thelen), as the rider. Alec insists that only he can ride The Black to victory.
Even though he can't ride, Alec tries to coach Tabari. But The Black throws her off! Then, Kurr and the Uruk capture The Black and Alec, taking them to a secret place. Alec manages to escape with The Black. As they run away, Alec discovers that Meslar is being held prisoner. He gives Meslar his pocket knife to cut his ropes. Alec and The Black escape back to Ishak's camp. Because Alec safely returned The Black, he is allowed to ride the horse in the race!
The Desert Race and Its Outcome
On the day of the race, Alec meets Raj again, who is also competing. They and the other riders begin their long journey across the desert. The Uruk's rider tries to hurt Alec, but Alec and The Black escape. Alec then sees that the Uruk's rider pushed Raj off his horse. Alec bravely goes back and helps Raj get back on his horse.
Together, Alec and Raj race against the Uruk rider. Suddenly, Meslar appears and scares the Uruk rider's horse, making him fall off. But the danger isn't over! Kurr chases Raj and Alec in his truck, even shooting at them. Luckily, Kurr's truck crashes into a ditch.
Alec wins the race! He then asks Sheik Ishak to spare Raj's horse. Usually, the winning sheik can take any horses he chooses. But Ishak agrees, which allows Alec to thank Raj for his kindness. Meslar returns with Kurr, his helper, and the Uruk rider, who are all taken prisoner. Even though Ishak gives The Black to Alec, Alec decides to leave his amazing horse in Morocco. He believes The Black truly belongs there.
