The Bots Master is an exciting cartoon series from 1993. It was created by Jean Chalopin's company, "Créativité et Développement," in France. In France, the show was called Le Maître des Bots. Saban International also helped produce it. There are 40 episodes in total. Each episode had a cool 2.5D part. The show even had its own toy line!

Saving the World from Evil Robots

In the year 2025, robots are everywhere. They do many jobs and help industries. This is thanks to a young genius named Ziv "ZZ" Zulander. He works for a company called Robotic Megafact Corporation, or RM Corp. ZZ created the "3A robot series," which changed the world.

However, the president of RM Corp, Sir Lewis Leon Paradim (LLP), wants more than just money. He wants to control the whole world! With his helpers, Lady Frenzy and Dr. Hiss, LLP plans to take over. He wants to use the same 3A robots ZZ invented for good. Dr. Hiss creates a "Krang Chip." This chip can make any 3A robot obey only RM Corp.

ZZ finds out about LLP's evil plan. He decides to leave the company. His goal is to stop the Krang Chips from being made and spread.

ZZ's Fight for Freedom

LLP and his team try to capture ZZ. They want him to join their side, but ZZ refuses. ZZ uses his own smart robots, called the B.O.Y.Z.Z. (Brain Operated Young Zygoetopic Zoids). With them, he starts a secret robot freedom fight against RM Corp's army of bots.

After escaping RM Corp, ZZ rescues his sister, Blitzy Zulander. They move their home and operations underground. This helps them stay hidden from the enemy. Once their secret base is safe, ZZ and his BOYZZ begin their mission.

ZZ secretly put a special system, called "mirrors," into Lady Frenzy's office computer. This lets him watch RM Corp's plans. He uses this information to mess up their operations. RM Corp tries to make ZZ look bad in the news. They say his heroic actions are harmful. This makes the public turn against him.

Meet the Characters

Human Heroes and Villains

The Zulander Family

  • Ziv "ZZ" Zulander (voiced by Mark Hildreth) - He is "The Bots Master" and a freedom fighter. ZZ created and leads the Boyzz Brigade. He used to work for RM Corp. But he left when he learned their secret evil plans. ZZ is great at disguises and can copy voices. He is also a skilled fighter. His special suit has anti-gravity boots and a paralyzing beam. He tries to avoid hurting innocent people. ZZ is allergic to a certain cactus pollen. He appears in all 40 episodes.
  • Blitzy "Blitz" Zulander (voiced by Crystaleen O'Bray) - She is ZZ's energetic 10-year-old sister. Blitzy often helps her brother on missions. She is good at providing backup. She can drive and loves flying the VAF jet. Blitzy often acts quickly to solve problems. She shares ZZ's allergy to the cactus pollen. She also appears in all 40 episodes.

RM Corp's Leaders

RM Corp is a company that makes robots. Ziv worked there before he left.

  • Sir Lewis Leon Paradim (voiced by Dale Wilson) - He is the main bad guy. LLP is the bald-headed CEO of RM Corp. He wants to take over the world using Krang Chips. Later, he tries to become World President. He also tries to make ZZ look like a villain. LLP is very clever and can even fight well.
  • Dr. Hiss (voiced by Ian James Corlett) - He is RM Corp's cyborg scientist. Dr. Hiss speaks with a lisp. He creates most of the Corp's robots. He really believes in his bots, even when they get destroyed. Dr. Hiss dislikes ZZ very much. He often tries to defeat ZZ with lots of firepower.
  • Lady Frenzy (voiced by Janyse Jaud) - She is LLP's second-in-command. Lady Frenzy has some romantic feelings for ZZ. This sometimes makes her loyalties to LLP tricky. She is calmer than Dr. Hiss. She often tries to talk things out before fighting.

Other Important Humans

  • Lonnie Chang - A news reporter. She often reports bad things about ZZ. But she doesn't seem to think he's a real threat in person. Her daughter, Rebecca, believes ZZ is not a bad guy.
  • Alicia - The Boyzz Brigade set ZZ up with Alicia, a model. They seem to like each other. Their first date was messy because of RM Corp. But Alicia still wants to see ZZ. Lady Frenzy tries to use Alicia to trap ZZ.
  • President Bando - The President of Africa. He is against LLP's plans. He is one of the few people who believes in ZZ.

Special 3D Segments

Every episode of The Bots Master had a short, special segment. These parts used a method called the Pulfrich effect. This made the segments look 3D, even though they were 2.5D. Viewers could watch with or without special glasses. These glasses came with the action figures.

To tell viewers to put on their glasses, a character, usually ZZ, would shout, "Lazer time, boyzz!" Then, an image of the 3D glasses would appear on screen. After the 2.5D part was over, ZZ would say "Game Over!" and the glasses image would appear again, but with a no symbol over it.

Toys and Merchandise

A toy line was made for the series by C&D. It included action figures of Ziv Zulander, Doctor Hiss, and Jungle Fiver. The toy line was later stopped.

Home Video Releases

Six VHS tapes of the show were released in the 1990s. Each tape had one episode and its title.
