The Brave Adventures of Hlapitch (which in Croatian is Čudnovate zgode šegrta Hlapića) is a famous children's book from 1913. It was written by a well-known Croatian author named Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. Some people also know it as The Marvellous Adventures of Hlapić the Apprentice.
What is the Story About?
The story follows a young boy named Lapitch. He is an orphan and works as an apprentice for a shoemaker, Master Scowler. Master Scowler is not very kind, but his wife is. One day, Lapitch gets blamed for a customer's shoes being the wrong size. Feeling sad, he decides to leave home.
Lapitch writes a note and runs away. Soon, he is joined by Bundaš, the Scowlers' dog. Together, they start a big adventure that lasts for seven days. During his journey, Lapitch meets many interesting characters. He becomes friends with Gita, a brave girl who performs in a circus. He also comes across a tricky person known as the Black Man. This exciting journey teaches Lapitch many things.
