The Carsey-Werner Company is a well-known company that makes TV shows and movies. It was started in 1981 by two talented people, Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner. They used to work together at a TV network called ABC.
Marcy Carsey first left ABC in 1980 to start her own company, Carsey Productions. She wanted to create new TV shows. Tom Werner later joined her, and they decided to form their own independent company together. This meant they would have more control over the shows they made.
For many years, Carsey-Werner handled its own TV show production. Since the early 1990s, they also managed how their shows were shared with other networks. Before that, other companies helped them distribute their programs. In 1994, Carsey-Werner bought back the rights to three of their popular shows. This gave them full control. In 2002, they also made a deal with Paramount Pictures to create feature films.
In 2004, Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner thought about selling their company. Many big companies were interested because Carsey-Werner had a valuable collection of hit shows. However, the sale did not happen, and Carsey-Werner stayed independent. In 2005, Marcy Carsey sold her part of the production side of the company. Tom Werner took full control in 2007, renaming it Werner Entertainment. This company later joined with Sara Gilbert's company in 2019. The part of the company that distributes shows still uses the Carsey-Werner name.
Since then, Carsey-Werner has mostly focused on sharing their older, popular shows. However, they did produce new shows like the return of Roseanne in 2018 and its spin-off, The Conners. Tom Werner also helped bring back You Bet Your Life in 2021.
