Centurions: Power Xtreme is an exciting animated TV show from the 1980s. It's a sci-fi action series where heroes use amazing suits and weapons to fight evil. The show was made by Ruby-Spears and animated in Japan. Famous Comic book artists Jack Kirby and Gil Kane helped create the characters and ideas for the show.

The series first aired in 1986 as a short five-part story. It was so popular that it was followed by a longer series with 60 more episodes! The music for the show was created by Udi Harpaz. There were also tie-in toys by Kenner and DC Comics made comic books based on the show.

The main story is about a battle between evil cyborgs led by Doc Terror and the heroic Centurions. The Centurions wear special suits that let them combine with powerful weapon systems. They become "man and machine, Power Xtreme!"

Story of the Centurions

In the future, a mad scientist named Doc Terror wants to take over Earth. He plans to turn everyone into robot slaves. His helper is another cyborg called Hacker, and they have a huge army of robots.

Doc Terror's Robots

Doc Terror uses many kinds of robots to try and conquer the world:

  • Doom Drones Traumatizers: These are walking robots with laser blasters for arms. They are the most common robots you'll see.
  • Doom Drones Strafers: These are flying robots that shoot missiles and lasers. Doc Terror and Hacker can even turn their robot bodies into Strafers to fly!
  • Groundborgs: These robots move on treads, like a tank, and are armed with lasers.
  • Cybervore Panther: A robot panther that appeared later in the series. It could even combine with the Cybervore Shark!
  • Cybervore Shark: A robot shark that also appeared later. It could combine with the Cybervore Panther.

Doc Terror's daughter, Amber, sometimes helps him with his evil plans.

The Heroic Centurions

The Centurions are a team of heroes who stop Doc Terror. They wear special "exo-frames." When they shout "PowerXtreme!", they can combine with incredible weapon systems. This turns them into powerful fighting machines, ready for any mission!

There were originally three Centurions, and two more joined later.

Original Team

  • Max Ray – The 'Brilliant' Sea Operations Commander. Max is the calm leader of the team. He wears a green suit and has a cool mustache. His weapon systems are perfect for missions in or under the water.
    • Cruiser: A sea assault system for water missions. It has hydro thrusters and a missile launcher.
    • Tidal Blast: A powerful attack system for both above and below water. It has shark missiles!
    • Depth Charger: A deep-sea weapon system that works like a mini-submarine. It has aqua cannons and torpedoes.
  • Jake Rockwell – The 'Rugged' Land Operations Specialist. Jake wears a yellow suit. He's very passionate and always tries to do the right thing. His weapon systems have the most firepower and are best for land missions.
    • Fireforce: A powerful land assault system with twin laser cannons.
    • Wild Weasel: A protective armor system that looks like a motorcycle. It's great for tough terrains.
    • Detonator: A heavy artillery system with sonic ray guns and freeze ray blasters for maximum power.
    • Hornet: An assault helicopter system with sidewinder missiles and a rotating freeze cannon.
  • Ace McCloud – The 'Daring' Air Operations Expert. Ace wears a blue suit. He's brave but sometimes argues with Jake. His weapon systems are made for missions in the air.
    • Skyknight: A powerful air assault system with turbo thrusters, laser cannons, and laser bombs.
    • Orbital Interceptor: An advanced air weapon system that can even be used in space!
    • Skybolt: An air reinforcement system with galactic missiles for front and rear attacks.

Extended Team

  • Rex Charger – The 'Expert' Energy Programmer. He wears a red and pale green suit.
  • John Thunder – The 'Specialist' Infiltration Commander. He wears a black suit.

Centurion Bases

The Centurions have a main base called Sky Vault. It's a space station orbiting Earth. From here, Crystal Kane, the team's operator, sends the Centurions and their weapons to where they are needed. Crystal is often with Jake's dog, Shadow, or Lucy the orangutan. Shadow even has a special harness with missile launchers!

The Centurions also have a secret base in New York City called "Centrum." It's hidden in a book store and can be reached by an underground train. "Centrum" is their land base and has a special pod to quickly send them to "Sky Vault." There's also a "Centurion Academy" where they train, but its location is a secret.
