The Donna Reed Show was a popular American sitcom (a funny TV show about everyday life). It was shown on the ABC network from 1958 to 1966. The show starred Donna Reed as Donna Stone, a caring housewife. Carl Betz played her husband, Alex Stone, who was a pediatrician (a doctor for babies and children).
Their teenage daughter, Mary, was played by Shelley Fabares. Their son, Jeff, was played by Paul Petersen. In the show's fifth year, Mary went away to college. Then, Paul Petersen's real-life younger sister, Patty Petersen, joined the show. She played Trisha, a child the Stone family adopted. Later, Bob Crane and Ann McCrea joined the cast as Dave and Midge Kelsey, who were friends of the Stone family.
