The Drones were a rock band from Australia. They started in Perth, Western Australia, in 1997. The band was formed by Gareth Liddiard, who was their lead singer and guitarist.
The Drones became well-known for their unique sound. Their second album, Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By, came out in April 2005. This album won the very first Australian Music Prize, which is a big award for music in Australia.
In 2010, their third album, Gala Mill (released in September 2006), was listed as one of the top 100 Australian albums ever. Two of their albums also made it into the top 20 on the ARIA Charts. These were I See Seaweed (March 2013) and Feelin Kinda Free (March 2016). The ARIA Charts show which albums are most popular in Australia.
The band stopped performing together in December 2016. After that, two of the members, Fiona Kitschin and Gareth Liddiard, started a new band.
