The Fairmont Orchid is a beautiful hotel located on the sunny Kohala Coast of Hawaii Island. It is known for being a very nice place to stay. This hotel is managed by a company called Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.
A Look Back in Time: The History of the Fairmont Orchid

The area around the Fairmont Orchid, especially Keawaiki Bay, has a long and interesting history. You can still see old sites, lava formations, and paths that lead to ancient places like burial grounds and caves.
The first person to develop this special area was Francis Hyde ʻĪʻī Brown. He lived from 1892 to 1976. Some people called him the "last chief" because he was a very important person. Brown was related to someone who was part of King Kamehameha's army. He was also a great leader and athlete in the 1920s.
In 1972, Mr. Brown sold the land to a company called Mauna Lani Resort. This company was owned by the Tokyu Group from Japan. The area was then renamed Mauna Lani. This name means "mountains reaching the heavens." It was named this way to honor the five volcanoes that surround the Kohala region.
By 1990, the resort was finished. It had 540 fancy guest rooms, a spa, and a large pool. The pool was about 10,000 square feet (929 square meters)! In 2015, the Fairmont Orchid was sold again. A company from South Korea called Mirae Asset bought it. They are one of the biggest financial companies in Asia.
New Looks and New Owners: Renovations at the Hotel
The Fairmont Orchid has been updated several times over the years. In 1996, about $13 million was spent to make the hotel even better. During this renovation, they added a restaurant called Brown's Beach House. They also created a special outdoor area for events.
In 2002, the hotel became part of the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts family. This means it joined other famous hotels like the Fairmont San Francisco and the Banff Springs Hotel in Canada. By the end of 2006, all the guest rooms and public areas of the hotel were updated with new furniture and decorations.
