The Great Redwall Feast is a fun picture book written by Brian Jacques. The amazing pictures were drawn by the well-known Redwall artist Christopher Denise. This book was first published in 1996.

About the Story

The Great Redwall Feast is the very first Redwall picture book. It is written like a ballad, which is a type of poem or song that tells a story. In this book, the friendly animals who live at Redwall Abbey (a large, old building where they all live together) decide to prepare a big surprise feast for their leader, the Abbot.

What Happens in the Story

The story of The Great Redwall Feast shows the creatures of Redwall Abbey getting ready for a huge party. Meanwhile, some of their friends like Matthias the Warriormouse, Constance the Badger, Foremole, and the Abbot are away in Mossflower Woods. They are looking for someone mysterious called Bobbatan Weary Nod.

The book shows all the busy Abbey dwellers cooking delicious food, gathering beautiful flowers, and doing many other things. They are working hard to make a wonderful feast for their beloved Abbot, who is probably Abbot Mordalfus. Many characters from other Redwall books, like Redwall and Mattimeo, appear in this story. However, there is one new character: a baby mole named Bungo, who wasn't in any other Redwall novel.

Pictures and What They Mean

The pictures in the book were drawn by Christopher Denise. He used warm colors and drew on brown butcher paper. Instead of showing the Redwallers getting ready for battles, the pictures show them looking much happier and friendlier. They are busy with their daily lives, cooking and preparing for the feast.

Brian Jacques, the author, once said that he wrote The Great Redwall Feast "a little more for mothers to read to their children." But he also said that many Redwall fans would enjoy it. This is because the book includes a fun challenge: you have to solve a riddle before the story ends!

Other Languages

This book has been translated into other languages so more children can enjoy it. For example, in German, it is called Das grofte Festmahl von Redwall.
