A Painting's Journey
This special painting once belonged to a French military leader named Horace François Bastien Sébastiani de La Porta. He was an officer who took part in Napoleon's invasion of Spain in 1807. After the war, the painting traveled with him back to Paris, France.
It stayed in Paris for some time. Later, a well-known art dealer, Jean-Baptiste-Pierre Lebrun, bought the painting. His ex-wife, Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, who was also a famous artist, suggested he buy it. She also thought it would be a good idea to send the painting back to Spain.
