The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure is an animated adventure movie from 1994. It's the second film in The Land Before Time series. This movie was released straight to video, meaning it didn't play in movie theaters first. It came out six years after the first Land Before Time film.
The movie was directed by Roy Allen Smith. It was also one of the first animated movie sequels to go straight to video, following Disney's The Return of Jafar. The animation for this film was done in South Korea by a company called AKOM. This movie, and the ones that followed, were made to be a bit softer and slower than the first film. They also added songs to make them fun for younger kids. Candace Hutson is the only voice actor who returned from the first movie, playing Cera again.
What Happens in the Movie
The story follows Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, and Spike. They live happily in the Great Valley, a safe place for dinosaurs. One day, they try to play in some "sheltering grass" but get stuck in quicksand. Their parents rescue them and tell them off for being careless.
That night, the friends decide they want to prove how brave they are. They plan to go into the Mysterious Beyond, a dangerous area outside the Valley. This place is full of scary Sharpteeth (like the T-Rex). Before they leave, they see two dinosaur egg thieves, Ozzy and Strut, stealing an egg from Ducky's mom's nest.
The kids chase the thieves into the Mysterious Beyond. A landslide happens, which damages the Great Wall around the Valley. This wall keeps the Sharpteeth out. The stolen egg rolls back to Ducky's nest safely, but the kids don't notice this.
In the Mysterious Beyond, the group finds another, bigger egg. They think it's the one that was stolen. They bring this new egg back to the Valley. Even after finding the original egg back in Ducky's nest, they decide to hatch the new one.
The egg hatches, and it's a baby Sharptooth! Littlefoot's friends are scared, but Littlefoot realizes the baby Sharptooth isn't dangerous yet. He decides to take care of the baby, whom he names "Chomper." It's hard to raise Chomper because he eats meat, and Littlefoot is a plant-eater.
Ozzy and Strut return to get revenge on the kids. But Chomper's big shadow scares them away, as they think it's an adult Sharptooth. The other friends meet Chomper and accept him. But Chomper accidentally bites Cera because he's hungry. Chomper gets upset and runs away crying.
The friends follow Chomper to a smoking mountain (a volcano). Ozzy and Strut try to attack the kids again. But the volcano erupts, sending the egg thieves falling down a canyon. After escaping, the kids meet two adult Sharpteeth. These big dinosaurs got into the Valley through the broken Great Wall.
All the dinosaurs in the Great Valley work together to chase the Sharpteeth away. The kids get back to their families. But Chomper feels left out and runs away again.
The adult dinosaurs wonder how the Sharpteeth got into the Valley. The kids explain that their adventure caused the landslide that broke the wall. The adults plan to fix the wall and tell the kids to stay put.
Littlefoot goes to find Chomper in the forest. When he finds him, the two adult Sharpteeth chase them. Chomper roars, and the adult Sharpteeth realize he is their son! They leave with Chomper.
Then, Ozzy and Strut kidnap Littlefoot! They plan to throw him off the Great Wall. Chomper hears Littlefoot's screams and brings his parents to help. Chomper's parents rescue Chomper from the egg thieves. They also accidentally save Littlefoot by chasing Ozzy and Strut back into the Mysterious Beyond.
Littlefoot says goodbye to Chomper as Chomper leaves with his parents. Littlefoot returns to the Valley to help the adults fix the broken wall. After all these adventures, Littlefoot tells his grandparents that being young isn't so bad. But he still looks forward to growing up!
