The Lightbox is a cool public gallery and museum located in Woking, Surrey, in the South East of England. It has three galleries that show different art exhibitions all the time. There's also a free museum called 'Woking's Story' where you can learn about local history. The Lightbox first opened its doors on September 14, 2007.
Discover The Lightbox
The Lightbox is right in the middle of Woking, next to the Basingstoke Canal. It was built to offer art and history experiences to people in the area and beyond. The idea for this cultural center started way back in 1993 with a group of local volunteers. They worked hard to raise money. The modern building was designed by Marks Barfield Architects, who also designed the famous London Eye!
In 2008, The Lightbox won a big award called the Art Fund Prize Museum of the Year. In 2016, it also received a Green Tourism silver award for being eco-friendly. The Lightbox is a charity, which means it gets support from groups like the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Arts Council. It also received some funding from Woking Borough Council.
The Lightbox usually hosts about 20 different temporary art exhibitions each year. Most of these exhibitions are created by the museum itself.
