Mysti (known as The Mysti Show for its first season) was a British television programme made for children. The BBC produced it from April 17, 2004, to December 16, 2005.
The show first started as an hour-long programme. It mixed a magazine-style show with a story. Later, it changed into shorter, 20-minute episodes that were only about the story.
About the Show's Format
Season 1: The Mysti Show
The first season was called The Mysti Show. It was shown on Saturday mornings on the CBBC Channel. It also aired on BBC One and later on BBC Two.
These hour-long episodes had two main parts:
- A "magazine" part with fun features and games.
- A "drama" part that told a story.
The magazine part included a gameshow called The Battle of Elbubb.
The main characters in the story were:
- Mysti (Laura Aikman), who was half-human and half-fairy.
- Her friends Rick (Oliver Mason), Ella (Eva Alexander), Ollie (Ashley Campbell), and Abby (Yasmin Paige).
Other characters often seen were Professor Dust (David Sterne) and Tatiana (Tricia George). There were also fairies named Snowdrop (Amy Pemberton) and Peaceblossom (Danielle Tabor). Mr. K (Richard James) owned the local diner.
Mysti, Rick, Ella, and Ollie also acted as presenters for the magazine parts of the show. Professor Dust hosted The Battle of Elbubb gameshow.
Many famous people appeared as guests on the show. These included Jackie Chan, Steve Coogan, Kirsten Dunst, the band McFly, and singer Jamelia.
After the second season aired, the first-season episodes were re-edited. They were turned into 20-minute drama-only episodes, just like the second season. The magazine parts from the original hour-long shows were not shown again.
Season 2: Mysti
For the second season, the show was simply renamed Mysti. It no longer had the entertainment sections. It ran only as a 20-minute drama.
In the story, the characters had grown up. They were now in 6th form at school. Mysti was sent away from the fairy heath. She lost her old fairy magic. However, she gained new powers that the other fairies had never seen before.
Ollie was not in the second season. The only fairies seen were Dust, Saber, Tatiana, and Peri. The other fairies from the first season did not appear.
