The Paul Street Boys (Hungarian: A Pál utcai fiúk) is a famous book for young people. It was written by the Hungarian writer Ferenc Molnár. The story was first published in 1906.

What is The Paul Street Boys About?

The story takes place in 1889 in a neighborhood called Józsefváros in Budapest, Hungary. It's all about a group of schoolboys. These boys spend their free time on a special empty lot. They call this lot the grund, and it's like their own country.

The two main characters are János Boka and Ernő Nemecsek. Boka is the brave and fair leader of the Paul Street Boys. Nemecsek is the smallest boy in the group. But he is also very loyal and brave.

The Battle for the Grund

Another group of boys, called the "Redshirts," want to take over the grund. Their leader is Feri Áts. The Redshirts usually hang out in the nearby botanical gardens.

When the Redshirts try to grab the grund, the Paul Street Boys must defend it. They organize themselves like a real army. They fight to protect their special place.

The Paul Street Boys win the battle for their grund. Little Nemecsek shows how incredibly brave he is. He proves that being small doesn't mean you can't be a hero. However, even with their victory, the book ends in a sad way.
