The Story of the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything
In a land long ago, a mean pirate named Robert the Terrible attacks a ship from the Kingdom of Monterria. He captures Prince Alexander. Luckily, Princess Eloise and her helper, Willory (played by Archibald Asparagus), manage to send out a special device. This device, called a "Helpseeker," is meant to find heroes to save the prince.
Finding Unlikely Heroes
Fast forward to modern times, we meet three friends who work at a dinner theater. There's George (Pa Grape), who always says "yes" to everything. Then there's Sedgewick (List of VeggieTales characters#Mr. Lunt), who is a bit lazy. And finally, Elliot (Larry the Cucumber), who is very timid. They dream of being heroes, but they feel stuck as lowly cabin boys.
One night, they mess up their show and get fired. As they sit in an alley, the Helpseeker finds them! Elliot accidentally turns it on, and suddenly, the three friends are transported to the Kingdom of Monterria.
A Royal Rescue Mission
In Monterria, they meet Princess Eloise and Willory. They learn that Pirate Robert, who is the king's banished brother, kidnapped Prince Alexander to get revenge. The group decides to find Robert's hideout.
During their journey, Robert's men capture Eloise and Willory. George and Elliot continue their quest. Sedgewick, being scared, decides to hide in a cave full of what he thinks are "cheese curls." But surprise! The "curls" turn out to be living worm-like creatures! They chase Sedgewick out of the cave, forcing him to be brave and overcome his laziness.
Facing Dangers and Finding Courage
George and Elliot arrive on an island where they meet a family of friendly rock giants. The giants help them reach Robert's fortress. Sedgewick, having swum across the ocean to escape the worms, catches up with them.
Outside the fortress, a giant mechanical serpent attacks the trio. Elliot realizes it's a machine and bravely goes inside to shut it down, saving his friends. Once inside, George, Sedgewick, and Elliot rescue the prince and princess.
They are then confronted by Robert. The friends admit they are "only cabin boys" and not heroes. But George, finding his courage, uses a chandelier to knock Robert down. The group escapes through a water tank in the fortress, with Robert chasing them.
Back in the bay, Robert's ship attacks their small boat. Just in time, the King arrives! He sinks Robert's ship and rescues everyone.
Heroes at Last
The King gives medals to Elliot, George, and Sedgewick, declaring them heroes. The Helpseeker then sends them back to their restaurant in modern times.
But Robert the Terrible secretly travels back with them! He attacks the dinner theater set, mistaking another performer for George. In a final battle, the three friends defeat Robert and send him back to his own time. The audience cheers, and the friends finally earn the respect they always wanted. They are offered their jobs back, but they decide to go on more adventures instead, as the Helpseeker blinks again.
After the movie's credits, the cast sings "Rock Monster," a funny song that's a parody of "Rock Lobster" by The B-52's. We also see Bob the Tomato as the director, and Robert the Terrible gets arrested by the King.
