Museum History
The museum's collection started a long time ago. It began as the Queen's Royal Lancers Regimental Museum. This first museum opened at Belvoir Castle in 1964.
In 2007, the museum needed a new home. Its lease at Belvoir Castle ended. The people in charge looked for money to move. They got help from the Heritage Lottery Fund. This funding allowed them to move to Thoresby Hall. The Stonebridge Trust, which manages the courtyard there, offered a 25-year lease.
The new museum at Thoresby Hall opened in July 2011. Princess Alexandra officially opened it. It was named The Queen's Royal Lancers and Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Museum.
In November 2023, some very valuable items were stolen from the museum. These were "priceless" silver military antiques. The museum lost many important historical pieces.
