The Mystery Begins: A New Adventure
This exciting story starts with Chet Morton showing off his cool new metal detector. He invites his friends, the Hardy boys and Biff Hooper, to go camping. Their destination? The mysterious Honeycomb Caves!
Meanwhile, the boys' father, Fenton Hardy, is busy with an important job. He is working to protect a new Coastal Radar Station. This station is being built, and someone is trying to damage it.
A Missing Person and a Team-Up
Suddenly, a girl named Mary Todd arrives. She tells Fenton that her brother, Morgan Todd, is missing. She asks Fenton to help find him.
The Hardy boys and their father decide to work together. Their mission is now double: find Morgan Todd and protect the radar station!
Clues and Strange Happenings
The Hardy boys travel to Kenworthy College. There, they meet Cadmus Quill, who worked with Morgan Todd. They find a clue that leads them to a place called Rockaway.
When Rockaway is mentioned, Cadmus Quill acts very strangely. This makes the boys suspicious.
Unexpected Twists and New Dangers
On their way to Rockaway, the boys hear a radio report. The radar station has been damaged! They quickly return to Bayport to help.
But their help isn't needed there, so they head back towards Rockaway. They stop at a store called Palis Paris to buy a spinning wheel for their Aunt Gertrude.
Warnings and a Risky Camp
Next, they stop at Tuttle's General Store. Mr. Tuttle gives them a warning. He tells them to stay away from Honeycomb Caves. People have seen strange lights and heard gunshots coming from there.
Instead of leaving, the boys decide to camp at Honeycomb Caves anyway. Chet and Biff join them for the adventure.
Trouble at Honeycomb Caves
At the caves, they meet a strange hermit. He invites them for breakfast, but then he chases them away! He even shoots at Frank.
Their adventure gets even more intense. Callie Shaw, Iola Morton, and Mary Todd try to get jobs at Palis Paris. Biff gets knocked out in a parking lot. Chet's metal detector suddenly explodes. And the Hardy boys' boathouse even catches fire!
Solving the Secret of the Caves
The story ends with the Hardy boys making an amazing discovery. They find a submarine delivering supplies to the hermit in the caves!
They explore the cave and learn a big secret. The caves have an underground passage that leads to Palis Paris! A special device was being built there to mess with the new Coastal Radar Station.
The Hardy boys cleverly trap the criminals, including Cadmus Quill, inside the cave. The State Police enter from the other side and arrest everyone. The Navy is told about the submarine and stops it. They find Morgan Todd, who was being held hostage!
