The Sun Trail is an exciting fantasy novel for young readers. It's the very first book in the Warriors: Dawn of the Clans series by Erin Hunter. This book came out on 5 March 2013. It tells the story of wild cats living long before the famous warrior Clans were formed. It's followed by the next book, Thunder Rising.

About the Series: Dawn of the Clans

The Warriors: Dawn of the Clans series is a prequel. This means it tells a story that happened before the main Warriors books. It explains how the groups of wild cats, known as Clans, first came to be. You'll learn about the early days of these Clans. It also shows how the warrior code, a special set of rules for the cats, was created.

The Story of The Sun Trail

The Sun Trail begins with a group of cats called the Tribe of Rushing Water. They live in the mountains and are led by Stoneteller. The Tribe is starving because there isn't enough food.

A Vision and a Journey

Stoneteller has a vision, like a dream, that tells her there's more prey if they follow the rising sun. When a young cat, called a kit, dies from hunger, some Tribe cats decide to follow this "Sun trail." They hope to find a better place with more food.

A kit named Jagged Peak secretly leaves the Tribe's cave. He wants to catch up to his older brother, Clear Sky, who is with the group that left. Their mother asks their other brother, Gray Wing, to go after Jagged Peak. Gray Wing doesn't want to go at first. But he agrees and saves Jagged Peak from an eagle attack. Then they both catch up to Clear Sky's group.

A Difficult Loss

One night, while the cats are resting, three eagles attack them. Clear Sky's mate, Bright Stream, saves Gray Wing from the eagles. But the eagles carry her away. Bright Stream fights back and kills the eagle carrying her. Sadly, she falls to her death.

After this sad event, Clear Sky and Gray Wing have a disagreement. Gray Wing thinks Clear Sky blames him for Bright Stream's death. But later, Clear Sky explains that he blames himself. The brothers then make up. Gray Wing suggests that it was just a terrible accident, and no one was truly at fault. Soon after Bright Stream's death, the traveling cats leave their mountain home. They enter new lands they've never seen before. Their journey continues in the next book, Thunder Rising.
