The Swamp Critters of Lost Lagoon is a fun American children's TV show. It was created by famous country music singer Bobby Goldsboro. The show features animal characters who live in a swamp. These characters are brought to life by actors using special costumes.

The program first aired on TV channels like PBS and The Learning Channel. This was between 1996 and 2001. Today, you can still watch it on the America One Television Network and TCT Kids.

Meet the Swamp Critters

The show is all about a group of animal friends living in a place called Lost Lagoon. They often play music together and learn important lessons.

The Main Band

The core of the show is a musical band made up of these cool critters:

  • William Robert "Billy Bob" Possum is the lead singer and plays bass. He's also great at solving problems for the group.
  • Joseph "Joe" Raccoon plays the banjo, guitar, harmonica, and saxophone. He also sings.
  • Gumbo the Fiddler Crab plays the fiddle, which is like a violin, and sings too.
  • Ribbit E. Lee is the drummer for the band and sings.
  • Ima Dilla Armadillo plays the tambourine. She's also a dancer and sings along.
  • Alouisious "Big Al Gator" Reptilicus plays the piano and accordion. He also sings and owns the cafe where the band performs.

Other Friends in the Swamp

Many other characters live in Lost Lagoon and join the adventures. Some of them include:

  • T. Bone Willie
  • Slim Pig
  • Bobby Q. Pig
  • Cashew Squirrel
  • Henrietta Hen
  • Granny Muskrat
  • Lil' Rock Raccoon, who is Joe's nephew.

The Music of Lost Lagoon

Each episode of Swamp Critters is about 30 minutes long. It features four to six songs. The music styles are very diverse! You can hear everything from blues and Dixieland jazz to pop, classical, and country music.

Bobby Goldsboro, the show's creator, wrote over 100 songs for the first two seasons. He wanted the music to be good for kids but not sound like typical "children's music." He believed in treating kids smartly and not talking down to them.

How the Critters Come to Life

The characters in Swamp Critters look very real! This is thanks to something called animatronics. Animatronics are special robotic parts that make the characters' faces move. They control their expressions and mouth movements. Each main character's costume head had a lot of technology inside to make them seem alive.
