The Swiss Family Robinson was an exciting American TV show about action and adventure. It aired from 1975 to 1976. The very first episode, which was two hours long, came out on April 15, 1975. This TV series was based on a famous book from 1812 called The Swiss Family Robinson. A producer named Irwin Allen made the pilot episode and all 20 episodes that followed. Irwin Allen also created another show inspired by the same book, but set in the future, called Lost in Space in 1965.
In some other countries, like Britain, this show was known as Island of Adventure. This was because a different TV series with the same name, The Swiss Family Robinson, had already been made in Canada.
About the Show's Story
This TV series tells the exciting story of the Robinson family. Their ship crashes, and they end up stranded on a faraway volcanic island. The main character is Karl Robinson, played by Martin Milner. He is a survivor of the shipwreck.
Karl is joined by his wife and their two sons. They must learn to survive together on this wild island. A young Helen Hunt also stars in the show. She plays Helga Wagner, a girl who was on the same shipwreck and is taken in by the kind Robinson family.
They also meet Jeremiah Worth, played by Cameron Mitchell. Jeremiah is a sailor who has been living alone on the island for seven years after his own shipwreck. He becomes a friend to the Robinsons. The show follows their adventures as they try to make a new life on the island.
