The Tofus (in French, Les Tofou) is a fun animated sitcom from France and Canada. It was made by SIP Animation and CinéGroupe. The show makes fun of the environmentalist lifestyle. This means it gently pokes fun at people who are super focused on protecting nature.
The main characters are the Tofu family: Mom, Pop, Chichi, Lola, and Grandma Buba. They live in a made-up town called Beauvillage. The series often jokes about parts of the environmental movement. This includes groups that work for the environment, animal rights, and being peaceful (called pacifism).
The show first aired on September 6, 2004, on Teletoon in Canada. It has 26 episodes, which are split into 52 shorter parts, across two seasons.

What the Show is About
Mom and Pop Tofu are very active in protecting the environment. They worry that their family is too caught up in city life. So, they decide to move to a farmhouse in Beauvillage. They want to live a more natural and simple life.
Their teenage kids, Chichi and Lola, are not happy about this at all! They would rather watch TV and go shopping. They don't want to play with Grandma Buba's farm animals. These animals include Cracker the Rooster, Curly the Sheep, and Suzie the Goat. Chichi and Lola have to deal with their parents' strong ecology beliefs. They also face embarrassing situations when their parents try to get others to protect the environment.
The Tofu family's new neighborhood is full of people who love technology. This is a big contrast to the Tofus' all-natural way of living. Chichi is smart and good with machines, and he tries to keep peace in the family. Lola is more doubtful and doesn't like being seen as weird in their new home. She also has a crush on Billy Hubbub, the boy next door. But Billy's parents don't like the Tofus, which makes things tricky!
Meet the Characters
The Tofu Family
- Chichi (voiced by Aaron Grunfeld): He is quiet but very smart. Chichi has a crush on a local girl named Candy. He is good friends with Candy and Phil.
- Lola (voiced by Brigid Tierney): She is very loyal to her brother. Lola's best friend is Lily. She has a big crush on her neighbor, Billy Hubbub.
- Mom (voiced by Maria Bircher): She is a calm and peaceful mother. Mom tries her best to keep her house running smoothly.
- Pop (voiced by Marcel Jeannin): Often, people think Pop doesn't notice much. But he usually figures things out quickly! He is also good at fixing things. Pop often invents machines using eco-friendly materials or clean energy.
- Buba (voiced by Sonja Ball): She is Lola and Chichi's grandmother. Buba grew up on a farm, so she knows all about that kind of life.
Friends and Neighbors
- April (voiced by Jesse Vinet): April often hangs out at the Tofu house. Her parents work in the emergency room, so she can get lonely. She became very close to the caring Tofus. April also quickly developed a crush on Chichi, giving him cute nicknames.
- William "Billy" Hubbub (Daniel Brochu): Billy is Lola's next-door neighbor and her biggest crush ever! The main problem keeping them apart is their families. Billy's parents often don't want their son hanging out with the "eco-friendly" Tofu kids.
- Titus Hubbub (Harry Standjofski): Titus is Billy's father and the Tofu family's biggest hater. He is also their next-door neighbor and a "Master of Alarms."
- Elizabeth "Beth" Hubbub (Pauline Little): She runs a restaurant called Burger Palace. This causes a lot of arguments with the Tofus. The Tofus don't like that she uses artificial ingredients.
- Phillip "Phil" (Jason Szwimer): Phil is the Tofus' neighbor on the other side. He is Chichi's best friend and someone Chichi can trust.
- Lillian "Lily" (Kayla Grunfeld): Lily is Lola's best friend and confidant. She is a bit quirky, loves romance, and gives lots of advice.
- Cherie (Sarah Allen): Cherie is Lola's rival at school. She is the "queen bee" of her school, meaning she's very popular and bossy.
- Nicolas "Nick": Nick is Chichi's rival. He is the leader of the bullies at Beauvillage.
- Beatrice (Cary Lawrence)
- Kris (Michael Yarmush)
Buba's Farm Animals
- Susan "Suzie": Suzie is a goat. She loves to eat everything and sometimes accidentally breaks things.
- Cottontail "Curly": Curly is a sheep with a lot of wool.
- Cracker: Cracker is a rooster.
