The Writer's Block is a special place in downtown Las Vegas. It is an independent bookstore, which means it's not part of a big chain. It also helps publish books and teaches people how to read and write better.
About The Writer's Block
The Writer's Block opened in 2014. It was started by Scott Seeley and Drew Cohen. Chris Molnar also helped open the store. This was the first independent bookstore in Las Vegas. It was only the second one in the entire state of Nevada.
How It Started
Scott Seeley was one of the people who started 826NYC. This is a non-profit group that helps young people with their writing skills. Chris Molnar used to manage a store for BSSco. He also worked for Archway Editions, a book publisher. Together, they brought their experience to create The Writer's Block.
Learning and Writing
At its first location on Fremont Street, The Writer's Block had a special area called Codex. This part of the store was for teaching. It was set up like the learning area at 826NYC's Superhero Supply Store. Codex had walls, tables, and desks that could be moved around.
This space was used for free writing workshops. Kids and teens aged 5 to 18 could come and learn to write. Codex also hosted book readings and signings. People could meet authors and hear them read from their books. There was also a monthly reading series called Neon Lit. This event featured writing students from the UNLV.
New Location
In 2019, The Writer's Block moved to a new home. It is now located in The Lucy. This is a new art center in downtown Las Vegas.
