The Young Snakes was an American band that started in Boston, Massachusetts, in the early 1980s.

The band was formed by Aimee Mann, who was the lead singer and played bass. She started the group with Doug Vargas (guitar and singing) and Dave Bass Brown (drums). Aimee Mann had left the Berklee College of Music to form this band.

Dave Brown left the band in 1981 to join another Boston band called Negative FX. Mike Evans, who used to be the drummer for a band called D Club, then became the new drummer for The Young Snakes.

They released a song called "Brains and Eggs" on a collection album named A Wicked Good Time. In 1982, they put out their own five-song mini-album (called an EP) named Bark Along with The Young Snakes. This EP was released on Ambiguous Records.

Later, in 2004, a special album called Aimee Mann & The Young Snakes came out. It had "Brains and Eggs" and a live radio show performance. However, it did not include the songs from their first EP, Bark Along with The Young Snakes.

Aimee Mann described The Young Snakes as a "punk noise-art" band. This means they liked to make loud, experimental music. She said they tried to "break every rule" in music. Later, Aimee formed another band called 'Til Tuesday. This new band was different because it focused more on sweet and melodic songs.

Music and Albums

The Young Snakes released a few important recordings during their time. These recordings helped show off their unique sound.

Their First Mini-Album

In 1982, the band released an EP (which stands for Extended Play). This is like a mini-album with fewer songs than a full album. Their EP was called Bark Along with The Young Snakes. It had five songs.

Collection of Songs

Many years later, in 2004, a special album was released. It was called Aimee Mann & The Young Snakes. This album was a collection of some of their music. It included the song "Brains and Eggs" and a recording from a radio show.
