The Zimmer Twins was a fun Canadian animated show and a special website. It was created by Jason Krogh and Aaron Leighton. The show was made by a company called Lost the Plot Productions Inc. What made it really cool was that kids could help make the stories!
Some of the best stories made by kids were turned into short TV episodes. These episodes aired on a TV channel called Teletoon in Canada. There was also a French version of the show and website called Les Jumeaux Zimmer.
The Zimmer Twins was famous for its unique way of mixing online fun with TV. Kids could go to the website and create their own 1-minute animated episodes. They used a special story editor and a library of animations. The show would start a story, and then the audience would create the ending!
Kids could tell their stories by picking actions, characters, props, and backgrounds. They could also add their own talking parts and text on the screen. New animation clips were added to the website sometimes.
The original Zimmer Twins website first opened on March 14, 2005. The TV show started airing on Teletoon in May of that year. About 60 short episodes (30 in English and 30 in French) were made and shown in the 2005-2006 TV season. By the end of that first season, over 100,000 episodes had been created by more than 50,000 registered kids!
The website got a big update on July 1, 2006. More episodes were broadcast too. A total of 120 episodes were shown in the 2006-2007 season. Another 32 episodes aired in the 2007-2008 season. The number of people using the site grew to over 200,000 by November 5, 2011.
In 2008, kids who used the website got to vote for their three favorite movies made by other users. The winning movies were then shown in a special half-hour awards show. This show aired on September 26, 2008, in English and September 20, 2008, in French.
Sadly, on August 10, 2020, the Zimmer Twins website and its school version were shut down. Today, you can only find old versions of the website saved by fans.
