Theodoros Pangalos (Greek: Θεόδωρος Πάγκαλος) was an important Greek politician. He was born on August 17, 1938, and passed away on May 31, 2023. He was a leading member of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) political party.

From 2009 to 2012, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Greece. In this role, he helped coordinate important government groups. These groups focused on foreign affairs, defense, and economic policies.

Early Life and Education

Theodoros Pangalos was born in a town called Eleusis, in Greece. This was on August 17, 1938. His grandfather was also named Theodoros Pangalos. He was a famous general and leader in Greece.

As a young man, Pangalos was part of a youth group called Lambrakis Youth. In 1964, he ran for a seat in the Hellenic Parliament. This is like the country's main law-making body.

Pangalos was against the military government that ruled Greece from 1967 to 1974. Because of his opposition, he lost his Greek citizenship in 1968.

Political Career Highlights

After the military rule ended, Theodoros Pangalos joined the Communist Party of Greece. He became a member of its Central Committee. Later, he joined the PASOK socialist party.
