Thermal was located about 5 miles (8 kilometers) south of a town called Auberry. It was known for its natural hot springs. These hot springs were so special that a resort was built there. People would visit the resort to enjoy the warm, mineral-rich water.

The name "Thermal" comes from the word "thermo," which means heat. This name was chosen because of the hot springs found in the area. These springs were a big attraction for visitors.
A Brief History
For a time, Thermal even had its own post office. This post office served the community from 1889 until 1900. After 1900, the post office closed, and the settlement eventually became inactive.
