Musical Journey

Thiago Castanho was born in Santos, São Paulo, Brazil. He started playing the guitar when he was 13 years old, with encouragement from his sister. By 1988, he was already playing in local bands. This is how he met his future bandmate from Charlie Brown Jr., Pinguim Ruas.

Forming Charlie Brown Jr.

In 1992, a singer named Chorão invited Castanho to join his band. This band would soon become the famous Charlie Brown Jr. Castanho played guitar on the band's first three albums. Their third album, Nadando com os Tubarões (2000), was a huge success and earned them a nomination for a Latin Grammy Award.

However, the band's constant touring was tiring. In 2001, Castanho decided to leave Charlie Brown Jr. to take a break.

New Bands and Projects

After leaving, Castanho started a new band called Aliados. They released two albums together. He also opened his own music studio called Digital Grooves. During this time, he played as a guest musician with the band Ira! on their Acústico MTV live album.

In 2005, Charlie Brown Jr. changed its lineup, and Castanho was invited back. He happily rejoined the band. He even helped produce their album Ritmo, Ritual e Responsa. He stayed with the band until it ended in 2013 after the unexpected death of the lead singer, Chorão.

A New Chapter with A Banca

After Charlie Brown Jr. ended, Castanho and the other members formed a new group called A Banca. It was a way to honor their friend Chorão and continue making music together. The band released one song, "O Novo Passo". Sadly, the group ended just a few months later after bassist Champignon also passed away.

Recent Work

Castanho has stayed busy with music. In 2014, he started a short-lived project called O Legado. He also performed with the popular band Capital Inicial for their Acústico NYC DVD, which was recorded in New York City. In 2019, he was a guest musician on a song by the singer MC Kevin.

In 2021, Castanho rejoined his Charlie Brown Jr. bandmates for a special tour. He later left the tour because of disagreements about the project's direction.

Art and Other Talents

Music isn't Castanho's only passion. He is also a skilled painter and sculptor. In 2013, he held his first art show in São Paulo, where he displayed his unique sculptures made of acrylic.
