Thiago Soares is a famous ballet dancer and choreographer from Brazil. He was born on May 18, 1981. Thiago was a main dancer, called a principal dancer, with The Royal Ballet in London. He also performed as a guest principal dancer in many other theaters worldwide.

Early Life and Training

Thiago Soares was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1981. He first started dancing in a hip hop group when he was young. At 13, he received a special scholarship to train as a professional dancer. He studied at the Centre for Dance Rio and finished his training in 1998.

Thiago's Dance Career

Starting in Brazil

In 1998, Thiago joined the Municipal Theatre Ballet in Rio de Janeiro. There, he danced many important roles. Some of these included the Prince in The Nutcracker and Siegfried in Swan Lake. He also performed as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and Basilio in Don Quixote. In 2002, he briefly trained with the Kirov Ballet and danced with the Russian State Ballet.

Joining The Royal Ballet

Thiago Soares joined The Royal Ballet in London in 2002. He started as a First Artist. He quickly moved up, becoming a Soloist in 2003 and a First Soloist in 2004. By September 2006, he became a Principal dancer. From 2017 to 2019, he was a principal guest dancer.

His performances at The Royal Ballet included many classic ballets. He danced Siegfried in Swan Lake and the Prince in The Nutcracker. He also performed in modern ballets like In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated by William Forsythe.

Roles in Famous Ballets

Thiago performed in many ballets by famous choreographers.

  • For Kenneth MacMillan, he danced as Romeo and Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet. He also performed in Manon and Mayerling.
  • For Frederick Ashton, he danced as Orion in Sylvia. He also played Colas in La fille mal gardée.

Thiago Soares married fellow dancer Marianela Núñez in 2011. They often danced together. They separated in 2014 and officially divorced in 2016. However, they are still dance partners and good friends.
