Thidna Conservation Park is a special protected area located in South Australia. You can find it on the Yorke Peninsula near a town called Corny Point. It's about 45 kilometers west of Adelaide, the state capital. The park helps protect nature and wildlife.

About Thidna Conservation Park

This park was officially created on December 19, 2017. It became a protected area under a law called the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. This law helps keep natural places safe.

At the same time, special rules were made. These rules allow some mining and energy exploration to happen in the park. However, it must follow other state laws. As of 2018, the park covers an area of 8.57 square kilometers.

What Does 'Thidna' Mean?

The name 'Thidna' comes from an Aboriginal word. It means 'foot'. This name was chosen because the park is located at the southern end of the Yorke Peninsula, which looks a bit like a foot.

The meaning of 'Thidna' was shared by the Point Pearce Aboriginal Community. It was officially approved as the park's name in 1993.

Why Is This Park Important?

In December 2017, a government minister named Ian Hunter talked about the park. He said that Thidna Conservation Park is very important. It protects 857 hectares of natural plants and trees.

This area is special because much of the land around it has been cleared. It was cleared for farming and other uses. The park helps keep a piece of natural Australian bushland safe.

Protecting Nature

Thidna Conservation Park is known as an IUCN Category VI protected area. This means it's a special type of protected place. In these areas, people can use natural resources in a careful and sustainable way. The main goal is to protect the environment while allowing some human activities.
