Thoeny is a ghost town located in the northern part of Valley County, Montana, in the United States. It is very close to the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Thoeny is found north of Hinsdale and west of Opheim. Today, the old school house still stands, and there is also a cemetery on a nearby hill.

The Story of Thoeny

Thoeny got its name in 1915 from its first postmaster, a man named Jacob Thoeny. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office.

By 1918, Thoeny was a busy little community. It had two general stores where people could buy everyday items. There was also a newspaper, a blacksmith shop, and other businesses. This was quite impressive because the town did not have a railroad nearby. Railroads were very important for towns to grow back then.

Today, you can still see some reminders of the old community. The schoolhouse is still there, and so is the cemetery. You might also find a few old building foundations. Thoeny is located near the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, north of Hinsdale and west of Opheim.
