A Life of Nobility
Thomas Belasyse was born into a very important family. His father was Thomas Belasyse, the 3rd Viscount Fauconberg. A "Viscount" is a noble title, a bit like a duke or an earl, but a step below.
Family Background
Thomas's mother was Bridget Gage. Her father was Sir John Gage, who also came from a noble family. When Thomas's father passed away on November 26, 1718, Thomas inherited his father's title and became the 4th Viscount Fauconberg.
A Change in Faith
Thomas Belasyse was raised as a Roman Catholic. However, he later decided to change his religion. He publicly announced that he was becoming a member of the Church of England. This was an important decision at the time.
Serving the King
Thomas Belasyse had an important role in the royal court. From 1738 to 1760, he served as a Lord of the Bedchamber to King George II. This meant he was a close attendant to the king, helping him with daily tasks and being part of his inner circle.
He also became a member of the Privy Council. This was a group of trusted advisors to the king. They helped the king make important decisions for the country.
Becoming an Earl
Because of his service and importance, Thomas Belasyse received an even higher title. On June 16, 1756, King George II made him the Earl Fauconberg. An "Earl" is a very high rank in the British nobility.

Thomas Belasyse married Catherine Betham on August 5, 1726. She was the daughter of John Betham. When Thomas passed away, his son, Henry, inherited his titles and became the 2nd Earl Fauconberg.
