His Early Life

Thomas Buck Reed was born on May 7, 1787, near Lexington, Kentucky. He went to public schools and later attended the College of New Jersey, which is now known as Princeton University. After his studies, he chose to become a lawyer.

His Career in Politics

Thomas Reed started his law career in Lexington in 1808. A year later, in 1809, he moved to Natchez, Mississippi. There, he worked as a city clerk in 1811.

He became the attorney general for Mississippi, serving from 1821 to 1826. This job meant he was the state's chief legal officer. He was part of the Jacksonian political party.

In 1825, he was chosen to be a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives. However, he decided not to take that position. Instead, he was elected to the United States Senate. He filled a spot that became open when another senator, David Holmes, resigned. Thomas Reed served in the Senate from January 28, 1826, until March 3, 1827.

He tried to be re-elected in 1827 but was not successful. However, he was elected to the Senate again in 1828. He began his second term on March 4, 1829.

His Family and Death

Thomas Reed married Margaret Allison Ross. Her father, Isaac Ross, was a plantation owner.

Thomas Buck Reed passed away on November 26, 1829, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was buried in the Old Baptist Cemetery.
