Early Life and Education

Thomas Estcourt was the son of Thomas Estcourt and Hannah Ascough. When he was about 16 years old, in 1586, he started studying at Magdalen College, Oxford. This is a famous university in England.

After his university studies, he went to a special law school called Gray's Inn. In 1593, he finished his law training and became a lawyer. This meant he could practice law in courts. He became a more senior member of Gray's Inn in 1604.

Public Service and Knighthood

In 1607, Thomas Estcourt took on an important role. He became the High Sheriff of Gloucestershire. A High Sheriff was a very important official in a county, helping to keep law and order.

Later that same year, on 6 November 1607, he was given the title of "Sir." This means he was knighted by the King, becoming Sir Thomas Estcourt.

Political Career

Sir Thomas Estcourt was also involved in politics. In 1597, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for a place called Malmesbury. A Member of Parliament (MP) is someone elected to represent people in the House of Commons. This is where laws are discussed and made.

In 1624, he was elected again as an MP, this time for Gloucestershire. However, he passed away later that same year.

Sir Thomas Estcourt was married to Mary Savage. Her father was William Savage, who lived in a place called Elmley Castle in Worcestershire.
