Mulry was a very successful businessman and banker. But he used a lot of his time and money to help others. On October 6, 1880, he married Mary E. Gallagher. They made their home in Greenwich Village, a neighborhood in New York City.

Thomas Mulry became a leader at the Emigrant Industrial Saving Bank. For ten years, he was its president. This bank was the biggest of its kind in the world at that time. He also worked with other companies.
