Early Life and Education
Thomas Wood was born on September 25, 1708. He was the seventh son of Edward and Elizabeth Wood. His family came from a place called Littleton, which was in Middlesex (now part of Surrey).
He went to a famous school called Eton College from 1718 to 1725. After that, he studied at two well-known universities: Christ Church, Oxford starting in 1725, and All Souls College, Oxford in 1732.
Career as a Lawyer and Politician
Thomas Wood became a barrister, which is a type of lawyer who argues cases in court. He officially became a barrister in 1735. He later became a "bencher" in 1766 and served as the Treasurer of the Inner Temple. The Inner Temple is one of the four professional associations for barristers in London.
In 1748, he inherited his brothers' properties. He was a member of the Whig party, which was a major political group in Britain at the time. He served as a Member of Parliament for Middlesex from 1779 to 1780. This meant he represented the people of Middlesex in the House of Commons.
