The Story of Thomaston
Thomaston was started a long time ago, in 1872. It grew up around the Gulf, Western Texas and Pacific Railroad. This railroad was very important for travel and moving goods back then. The community was named after Nathan Thomas. He used to own some of the land where Thomaston was built.
Soon after it was founded, Thomaston got its own post office in 1873. This made it easier for people to send and receive mail. Schools also began in Thomaston early on. However, today, students from Thomaston go to schools in the nearby city of Cuero.
In recent years, Thomaston has become smaller. This is because people started using cars and trucks more than trains for transportation.
