Thompson is found in northeastern Pennsylvania. Its exact location is 41°51′44″N 75°30′57″W / 41.86222°N 75.51583°W. The borough covers a total area of about 0.5 square miles (1.3 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
A Look Back: Thompson's History
Thompson Borough was officially created on August 15, 1876. It was formed from a part of Thompson Township. Both the borough and the township were named after William Thompson. He was a judge in Susquehanna County.
In 1870, a gristmill was built on Jackson Street by G. Fenton Spencer. A gristmill is a place where grain is ground into flour.
