Thompson is a popular music group from Croatia. It was started by Marko Perković, who is also known as "Thompson." Many people think of Marko Perković and the band as the same. He writes the songs and is the main singer. The other members of the band are Tomislav Mandarić, Ivan Ivanković, Duje Ivić, and Ivica Bilić Ike.
The band's name comes from the Thompson submachine gun. This was a nickname given to Marko Perković when he fought in the Croatian War of Independence. The band became popular during the Croatian war in 1991. Their first song, "Bojna Čavoglave," was about Croatia's part in the Yugoslav Wars. This song was even sung by the BiH Army during the Siege of Sarajevo, with slightly different words.

How Thompson Became Popular
Thompson became well-known in Croatia during the 1990s. Their first album, Moli mala, came out in 1992. Later, in 1998, they had another big hit song called "Prijatelji."
Big Tours and Albums
In 2002, Thompson began a large tour to promote their album E, moj narode. This tour lasted until 2005. They performed in many places, including the Sydney Entertainment Centre and Melbourne's Vodafone Arena in Australia. By May 2005, the album had sold over 60,000 copies, which is a huge success.
The band continued touring in 2006 for their album Bilo jednom u Hrvatskoj. They played concerts in Germany, Sweden, Australia, Canada, and the United States.
Annual Performances
Every year, Thompson performs at the Homeland Victory celebrations in their hometown of Čavoglave. These concerts are very popular. They can have between 60,000 and 100,000 people watching. Other Croatian singers, like Mate Bulić and Dražen Zečić, also perform at these events.
Controversy
Thompson's music and concerts have sometimes caused debate. Some people believe that certain songs and performances praise a group from World War Two. This has led to discussions and different opinions about the band.
