River's Journey

The Thompson River starts from Lemoine Lake (Val-d'Or). This lake gets most of its water from Mourier Lake.

From Lemoine Lake, the Thompson River flows north for about 4.9 kilometers (3 miles). It forms a part of the river that boats can use. Along its way, it collects water from the Piché River.

The Thompson River then reaches the south shore of Lac De Montigny. This spot is:

  • About 20.2 km (12.6 miles) southeast of where the Harricana River flows into Malartic Lake.
  • About 7.8 km (4.8 miles) south of the main exit of Lac De Montigny.
  • About 5.8 km (3.6 miles) west of downtown Val-d'Or.
  • About 10.2 km (6.3 miles) northeast of Lac Fournière.
  • About 1.8 km (1.1 miles) north of a small community called Rivière-Thompson.
