The Thompson River is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into De Montigny Lake. This river is located near the town of Val-d'Or.
The area around the Thompson River is popular for fun activities. People enjoy boating on nearby lakes like De Montigny, Blouin, and Lemoine Lake. There is even a place for boats (a marina) and a spot for seaplanes. A railway bridge and a road bridge cross this river. It is on the west side of Val-d'Or.
During winter, from mid-December to mid-April, the surface of the Thompson River usually freezes over.
River's Journey
The Thompson River starts from Lemoine Lake (Val-d'Or). This lake gets most of its water from Mourier Lake.
From Lemoine Lake, the Thompson River flows north for about 4.9 kilometers (3 miles). It forms a part of the river that boats can use. Along its way, it collects water from the Piché River.
The Thompson River then reaches the south shore of Lac De Montigny. This spot is:
- About 20.2 km (12.6 miles) southeast of where the Harricana River flows into Malartic Lake.
- About 7.8 km (4.8 miles) south of the main exit of Lac De Montigny.
- About 5.8 km (3.6 miles) west of downtown Val-d'Or.
- About 10.2 km (6.3 miles) northeast of Lac Fournière.
- About 1.8 km (1.1 miles) north of a small community called Rivière-Thompson.
