Magi facts for kids
The Magi were "wise men from the east." They traveled to Jerusalem during the time of King Herod. They were looking for the new "King of the Jews." Their journey to visit Jesus was guided by the Star of Bethlehem. This special visit is celebrated every year on January 6 during a holiday called Epiphany. This holiday happens just after Christmas. Epiphany also marks the end of the Christmas season in many churches.

Who Were the Magi?
The Magi are famous from the Gospel of Matthew in the Bible. They are described as wise men, possibly scholars or priests, who studied the stars. They came from a land to the east of Judea. While the Bible does not say how many Magi there were, tradition often speaks of three. This is because they brought three gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

The Magi followed a special star, known as the Star of Bethlehem. This star led them all the way to where Jesus was. When they found Jesus, they bowed down and worshiped him. They also gave him their precious gifts. These gifts were very valuable and had special meanings.
