About Tiago Leifert

Early Life and Family

Tiago Leifert was born in São Paulo, Brazil. His father, Gilberto Leifert, worked as a director for the big TV network, Rede Globo. Tiago has both Jewish and Portuguese family roots.

Education and First Steps

Tiago studied Journalism and Psychology at the University of Miami. He also trained as a journalist at the American TV network NBC. In 2004, he started working at TV Vanguarda, a local TV station connected to TV Globo. There, he was an editor and presenter for a youth show called Vanguarda Mix.

Tiago's TV Career

Starting at Rede Globo

Tiago joined Rede Globo in 2006. He first presented a show called Pro Rad and reported on video games for the sports program Esporte Espetacular. He also covered major sports events like the Brazilian football season in 2008, the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Hosting Globo Esporte SP

In 2009, Tiago became the main presenter and editor of Globo Esporte SP, a sports news show. He brought a fresh, fun style to the program. He often used humor and catchy phrases, making the show very popular. He made the show more spontaneous, meaning he didn't always read from a script.

From Sports to Entertainment

Tiago's talent was noticed by director Boninho, who invited him to host The Voice Brasil. He became the presenter of this popular singing competition show from its very first season in 2012.

He was also a commentator for the Brazilian version of the FIFA video game series from FIFA 13 to FIFA 20.

In July 2015, Tiago left sports journalism to work in Globo's entertainment section. He briefly helped host the show Encontro com Fátima Bernardes. In August 2015, he became one of the hosts of a new Saturday morning show called É de Casa.

Hosting Big Reality Shows

Between January and March 2016, Tiago hosted the first season of The Voice Kids. This was a special version of the reality show for children and teenagers aged nine to fifteen.

On August 27, 2016, it was announced that Tiago would become the new host of Big Brother Brasil starting with its 17th season. He took over from Pedro Bial. He also started presenting a show called Zero1 in 2016, which focused on video games, geek culture, and the pop universe. He continued to host Big Brother Brasil in 2017.

In 2021, after 16 years of working at Globo, Tiago Leifert decided to leave the network.

Awards and Recognition

Tiago Leifert has won several awards for his work as a journalist and presenter:

  • In 2009, he won the "Revelation" award from the Association of Sportswriters in São Paulo.
  • He won the "Best Broadcast Television Presenter" award from the São Paulo Association of Art Critics in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.
  • In 2010, he received the "Communicate Award Sports Journalist / Electronic Media".
  • In 2011, he was named "Best of the Year / Journalist" on Rede Globo's show Domingão do Faustão.
  • He also won "Best Presenter" from the Sports Writers Association of the State of São Paulo and "Featured Sports Journalist" at the Extra TV Award, chosen by readers.
