Tickle, Patch and Friends was a fun and award-winning TV show for children in the United Kingdom. It was made by Two Hand Productions and shown on Channel 5 as part of their Milkshake! morning block. The show was very popular and even won a BAFTA award!

Meet Tickle and Patch!

The show was all about the exciting adventures of two guinea pigs named Tickle and Patch. Marcus Clarke and Helena Smee created and moved these puppet characters. In every episode, Tickle and Patch would try out a new job to earn some money.

Sometimes, other characters from different Milkshake! shows would appear, like PB Bear or Mr. Men and Little Miss. Tickle and Patch traveled to many different places for their jobs. They visited zoos, beaches, busy parts of London, churches, schools, and even farms!

Who Else Was in the Show?

Besides Tickle and Patch, there were a few other interesting characters:

  • Pipsqueak: This was a baby guinea pig who joined Tickle and Patch in 2002.
  • 37 Bear: A friendly bear who drove a taxi.
  • Thing: A very large insect whose origins were a mystery.
  • Alien: A puppet alien made from soft fleece material.

Fun Parts of the Show

The show had special segments that viewers could enjoy:

  • The Picture Gallery: In this part, Tickle and Patch would look at drawings sent in by children watching the show. Later, it was called The Farmyard Gallery.
  • Patch FM: Tickle and Patch pretended to be disc jockeys. They would chat with viewers using a video phone and answer questions that kids often asked.
  • Joke Time: Tickle and Patch would read out jokes sent in by viewers. They often did this from different places, like outside a theme park. They would laugh so much that their socks or pants would comically fly off!
  • Tickle's Quiz: This was a new part in later series. Tickle would stay inside a barn, perhaps because of the rain. He would ask the audience a simple question, like what sound a farm animal or vehicle makes.

Tickle and Patch Beyond Their Show

Tickle and Patch didn't just stay on their own show!

  • In the early 2000s, they sometimes appeared with the Milkshake! presenters. They would be in special spin-off shows or short clips between programmes.
  • Funny mistakes and bloopers from the show were sometimes shown on It'll Be Alright on the Night, a TV show that features funny outtakes.
  • In 2020, Patch even tried out for Britain's Got Talent as a comedian! But he only got to tell one joke before the judges buzzed him off, and he got four "no" votes.
